Welcome back to Term 3,
We have an exciting term ahead of us, including learning experiences linked to Science and how we can better protect our Marine Environments. This topic was chosen by the children last term.
Plays -The children this week have been reading plays and they are going to perform them in front of the class on Friday afternoon. They may ask you for some simple props or costumes from home.
Camp notices – these were sent home last term, thank you to those who have filled in the form and returned it. We don’t need any payment as yet – just the form. The children would like to win the prize for having all the forms returned first so please support them and return the forms even if the children are not attending camp next year.
High Abilities- There is a high abilities meeting for parents on Tuesday 8th August between 7pm-8pm. The discussion will be held by Brooke Trenwith who will speak about some of the joys and challenges of parenting a child with High Abilities! She will also talk about e-learning tools that are useful at home.
Thursday– PE is gymnastics, please remind the children to wear appropriate clothing.
Monday week 2 – library.
Have a great first week.
Corban Estate Arts Centre
Just a reminder that it is our trip to Corban Estate Arts Centre tomorrow. We will be leaving at 9.00 am so it would be greatly appreciated if your child could be at school in class by 8.30 tomorrow so we can get organised and leave on time. They need to bring their brain snack, morning tea, lunch and a drink bottle in their school bag as normal. We are aiming for a 1.20 pm return. Thanks for all the parents who are providing transport and I trust you received your information letter last week from your son/daughter. It is going to be a great trip where the children will be making their own kite.
Sausage sizzle is this Tuesday so bring your $1.00 for a sausage wrapped in bread.
School finishes on Friday, for the two week term holidays, at the usual 3.00 pm time.
There is no homework this week.
Have a safe and enjoyable time with your children, and I will see you all next term.
We were awarded the Environment Shield last Friday at Whole School Assembly, for our fantastic and interesting classroom environment. The class and I were very happy to receive this award. It was great to have the children’s writing, reading, maths and art work, which they have displayed in the classroom, recognised by the school.
Corban Art Estate Field Trip
Thank you to everyone who has handed in their permission slip and paid their $10 for our field trip to Corban Estate. Also a big thank you to all who have offered to to come on the trip and provide transport. If you haven’t yet returned a slip and money please do it as soon as you are able. The preferred method of payment for this on wrapitup.co.nz. Our field trip is on the 3rd of July, last Monday of the term.
Hands on Creatures
As part of our Science curriculum we will be visiting “Hands on Creatures” in week 8 of this term, there is a $5 charge for this and the preferred method of payment for this is via The Edge. Please register at https://parent.musac.school.nz if you have not registered. A notice for this went home last week. The classes who have already visited, have said the children loved the experience.
This week the children will be watching a music performance by Strike in the school hall and all senior classes will be attending a Strike music workshop at school.
Have a fantastic week everyone!
I hope you had an enjoyable and relaxing long weekend.
The children have written some fantastic poems over the last five weeks and have read and studied many New Zealand myths. Later in the term we will invite you to class to hear poetry and see some of the wonderful learning the children have been doing.
This week we start our focus on explanations in writing where we will be writing about natural phenomenon and we have a Science focus in topic, where we will be looking at a range of New Zealand flora and fauna.
Corban Estate Arts Centre Trip
We have coming up on the 3rd of July, which is the last Monday of the term, a trip to the Corban Estate Arts Centre. We will be travelling by parent cars leaving at 9.00 am and hopefully returning to school at 1.20 pm. There will be a notice and permission slip going home this week. If you think you can come on the trip and bring your car please indicate this on the returning slip.
Thanks, have a wonderful week!
Kia ora everyone,
The Aotea Youth Symphony Trip
This trip is on Wednesday and thank you to all who have handed in permission slips and $2. For those children who still want to go on the trip I need them returned asap. We will be walking to the Mt Albert Memorial Hall departing at 8.45 am attending the concert and then walking back to school for a 11.00 am return. I need parent help for this trip so please email me on firstname.lastname@example.org if you can help. I have one parent who has emailed me at this stage.
As part of our poetry writing we have been exploring what it means to be a Kiwi/New Zealander. We are making hanging mobiles to display our New Zealand poems. These will include our poems and kiwiana objects. We started these last Friday and will continue to work on them over the week. All children need to bring in materials to make their mobile such as kiwiana objects, wool, string, fishing line, strong sticks, bamboo. If you have extra of any of these please bring them in as we are sharing when needed.
Cross country is this Friday and will be held over at UNITEC this year. We will be going over to UNITEC after school assembly so please ensure your child is dressed appropriately with running gear. You are all welcome to come and watch the event. 9 year olds will start at 11.10 and 10 year olds 11.40.
My first three weeks in Rm 14 have flown by and that is due to your children being so welcoming to me as their new teacher and being so positive and enthusiastic about their learning. Please contact me at anytime if you want to find out more about what we are doing in the classroom or any aspect of your child’s learning or well-being at school.
