Assembly

Kia Ora everyone,

Well there were certainly a lot of very tired faces this afternoon, but what a fantastic and busy week it’s been!  We hope you enjoyed our assembly today, I thought the children were fabulous, and we had lots of fun putting our item together.  Below is the link to the assembly just in case you missed it and the children may want to have a look.

This link has been copied to the blog for parents only viewing. Please do not copy this link or re-post on YouTube or any other public media. This is for the cyber safety of Gladstone children. Thank you.
The screen printing is coming along really well too, thanks to Eleanor, Anne and Teresa who came in this week to help out.
Have a safe and relaxing weekend

Busy Week 4 Ahead

Kia Ora everyone,

we have a very busy week ahead so a number of reminders are needed.

School Assembly this Friday

It is our turn to perform at School Assembly, so please come along and support your child in their performance. The class have been practising hard at their dance and acting skills.  Every child is dressing up in Halloween costume and they can bring these to school in a named bag, starting this Monday.  We need old shoe boxes to paint so if you have some you don’t want anymore please bring them in on Monday.  Also if anyone has spare black masks that bats could wear that would be great too.  Please have your child come early to school on Friday at 8.00-8.15 am so we have time to get dressed, calm the nerves and be ready on time.

Athletics Sports Thursday

The middle and senior school will be going over to UNITEC for Athletics Sports this Thursday for the whole day.  Your child will need to wear suitable clothing for running in, have a sunhat, be wearing sunscreen and have a water bottle as well as their usual food for the day.  Parents are most welcome to come and watch the sports.

Screen Printing All Week

We start screen printing our bags on Monday and we start our class piece for the auction this week – exciting!!  If your child still wants to bring in their own pillow case to practise their screen print on they can.  I recommend they wear clothes that you don’t mind if ink and paint gets on them or they can bring a big old shirt to wear, and we can keep it at school for when they are doing their art.  Parent help– if you have some screen printing experience and would like to help out in the class over the next couple of weeks, please send me an email.  A big thank you to those who are already coming in this week!

Swimming

Swimming starts this week in PE, but for our class it will be next week as our PE day is Thursday and we will be at UNITEC.

Library

Library is on Monday please return any overdue books.

Take Care and have a great week.

Water Pollution Advertisements

Kia Ora everyone,

as many of you have seen, the children all wrote and acted out their own advertisements on one aspect of water pollution for GTV.   The links for these are below.   Please note, these links have been copied to the blog for parents only viewing.  Please do not copy this link or re-post on youtube or any other public media.  This is for the cyber safety of Gladstone children.  Thank you.

Week 10 Term 3

Morena everyone,

well it is the last week of the term, and it has flown by.  You may have read in the school blog that this Wednesday the classrooms are open so you can come in and view the work that the children have been doing this term in Topic, of course you can also view any of their work.  Room 14 will be open from 3.30 to 5.00 pm.  The children have work on a display wall, and they also have produced advertisements which have been played on GTV, these will be played in the classroom for you to view as well.  Our topic was investigating water and marine environments, how they are being negatively impacted on, and what we can do to protect them.

We are also having a cultural day on Wednesday, our class will be making dumplings and learning some Maori games.

Calendar art can still be ordered but today Monday the 25th of September is the last day.  If you need to view please check out our previous blog.  You can click on the link below to view our art and order online.

Cultural Day 27th September

Morena,

Cultural Day – Parent Helpers Needed

We have had no offer of help, for Room 14, for our upcoming Cultural Day so I am out my request again.  If you have any interest or are available that day please give this some consideration and contact me.

Gladstone will be having a Cultural Day and Exhibition of Learning on Wednesday the 27th of  September.  The children will be displaying their New Zealand Water Systems and Marine Environment learning that we are now working on for Topic.  We need to have one or more parents come in to share and teach the children something about their culture.   We could make food, learn a song/dance/game, undertake an art project, any ideas will be considered! Please drop me a line or pop in to see me if you would be interested in taking part – we would love to have your involvement and the chance to learn more about the wonderful cultures that make up Room 14.

Nga mihi

Week 5 Term 3

Kia ora everyone,

Long Bay Trip

Thank you to everyone who has returned permission slips for our class trip to Long Bay on Tuesday 29th of August. The deadline for this was last week so please get your trip forms in asap if you haven’t done so.  Thank you to all parents who have offered to help out on this trip I will be in contact.  Its not too late to contact me if you would like to come. We will be going by bus.  The trip is an action-packed day investigating how people affect coastal environments and streams. Through hands-on learning we explore the waterways of Long Bay. Meet the animals living in Long Bay streams and learn how they are affected by changes to their environment. Students then observe examples of human impacts on waterways and identify potential pollution sources. They will learn how their own actions can help preserve the health of our streams.

Speeches

We started our speeches last Friday and will continue this week.  The children and I really enjoyed listening to the speeches and I was so proud of all of the children who presented their speech last Friday.  They all did a fantastic job!!

New Exercise Books

A reminder that some of the children need new exercise books because they have filled up their old ones, particularly in Maths and Writing.  Please be proactive and ask your child if they need any new exercise books.  This weekend would be a good time to get new ones.  Some of the children have been working on photocopied pages for some time and they are not keeping a good record of learning.

Photos

Later this week I want to send out some photos of our trips and learning on the blog.  Please let me know if you don’t want me to include any photos of your child.

Thanks have a great week!

Long Bay Trip

Hi everyone,

what a fantastic afternoon we had today planting trees for Friends of Oakley Creek.  The children all planted one native tree each and they did a great job.  It is so rewarding to see the children involved in a local community activity and doing something positive for our environment.  Thank you to all the parents who came along too and lent a helping hand, we couldn’t do it without you.

This brings me to my next request, I need parent helpers for another trip, this time a day trip, to Long Bay on Tuesday 29th of August.

I need to know asap if you would like to join us on this trip.  Please email me at stephaniee@gladstone.school.nz.

Thanks.

Term 3 Week 3

Kia ora everyone,

Oakley Creek Trip

On Monday afternoon we have our trip to Oakley Creek, leaving school at lunchtime and returning for the 3.00 pm end of the school day.  Thank you to all the parents who have contacted me and said they can help.  If you would like to join us, you still can, just send me an email before Monday.  Some of the children have told me verbally their parents are coming, so if this is you please email me stephaniee@gladstone.school.nz to confirm. We will meet in Room 14 at 1.05 for a 1.15 departure.  All the children and parent helpers need covered- in sturdy shoes (gumboots are ideal) and gardening gloves to protect their hands.  It should be a great outing where the children feel they have helped out in our community in a positive way.

New Exercise Books

Some of the children need new exercise books because they have filled up there old ones, particularly in Maths and Writing.  Please be proactive and ask your child if they need any new exercise books.  This weekend would be a good time to get new ones.  Some of the children have been working on photocopied pages for some time and they are not keeping a good record of learning.

School Photos

School photos are next week and our class photo will be either on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Gymnastics

Gymnastics continues this week,  so on Thursday the children need to dress in comfortable clothing they can jump and roll in.

Have a great week

Week 2 Term 3

Hi everyone.  Hope that you have enjoyed the sunshine this weekend even though it was a little chilly.

Oakley Creek Trip – Parent Helpers Needed

Next Monday the 7th of August  we have a trip to Oakley Creek as part of our Science Topic, where we are investigating pollution in our waterways and how this impacts negatively on our marine environments. As part of this topic we wanted to take some positive action in our local environment and an opportunity has arisen for us to help The Friends of Oakley Creek plant some trees and do some mulching. We will be leaving school at 1.15 pm and estimated time of arrival back at school is 2.50 pm.  For this trip to go ahead I need parent helpers so please email me if you can help on Monday for a couple of hours.   I know its short notice but it would be great to be involved in a community project such as this.  We also need gardening gloves, the school has a supply of gloves but not enough for all of us, so if you have gloves at home can the children bring them in asap and any spares.  This trip is covered by the 5 km permission slip you signed at the beginning of the year.

Cultural Day – Parent Helpers Needed

Gladstone will be having a Cultural Day and Exhibition of Learning on Wednesday the 27th of  September.  The children will be displaying their New Zealand Water Systems and Marine Environment learning that we are now working on for Topic.  More information about this day will follow but I just wanted to get an early call-out to any parents or family members who might be interested in coming along for the cultural part of the day to help us to learn something about your particular home culture.  We could make food, learn a song/dance/game, undertake an art project, any ideas will be considered! Please drop me a line or pop in to see me if you would be interested in taking part – we would love to have your involvement and the chance to learn more about the wonderful cultures that make up Room 14.

Have a great week.
