Zoe Burnett – Gladstone Ukulele Star

Our very own Zoe Burnett (Room 49) has gained a place in The Junior NZ Ukulele Squad (Year 5 to 8 students).

‘Rangatahi o te Ukurere o Aotearoa’ ‘The Youth of NZ Ukulele’
where NZ Ukulele Trust empower youth to develop their ukulele musicianship, confidence and performance skills. This Squad perform as part of the APPA Music Festival in Auckland’s Town Hall in November and at the NZ Ukulele Homecoming event on 2nd December.


There will be a free family concert coming up at the Vodafone Events Centre in Manukau on Saturday 22 July.  Programme starts at 1.30 with foyer activities for kids and the Sistema Orchestra playing.  The afternoon culminates in a one hour concert from the APO (3-4pm).

The concert is a programme of popular orchestral pieces such as Grieg’s Peer Gynt Morning  and In the Hall of the Mountain King and arrangements of well-known music including Pirates of the Caribbean The Curse of the Black Pearl.  The concert also includes the second outing of our specially commissioned arrangement of Poi E.

Free Opera performance and workshop for Children

In association with Auckland Live, the New Zealand Opera schools tour team will be taking the stage once more with their delightful rendition of Donizetti’s Don Pasquale.

Each day, over the weekend, there will be a  FREE performance of the opera followed by a workshop where children and parents/family alike can have a go at being an opera singer themselves.

Saturday 25th June – Concert Chamber, Auckland Town Hall – 10.30am

Sunday 26th June – Bruce Mason Centre, Takapuna – 10.30am

Senior School trip to Orchestra

This morning the Senior School walked to Mt Albert War Memorial Hall to watch a concert by local youth orchestra, Aotea Youth Symphony, directed by Paul Harrop. We were introduced to each family of instruments and given demonstrations by each instrument.

Sylvia does it again!

Sylvia Douglas, our star composer has done it again at 2017’s Hook Line and Singalong competition. She gained an award for being an Outstanding Younger Composer with her song, ‘Turn back time’.

Free Bus and Free concert this Friday!!!

A select choir of Gladstone singers have been singing with the APO in their APO 4 Kids Christmas Concerts.
The APO has generously offered to supply us with a bus going from and returning to Gladstone this Friday to see:
the 7:30pm final concert at the 
Vodafone Events Centre in Manukau. 
This concert is free, so all you have to do is sign up and be there.
The bus will be leaving at about 6:30pm(TBC) 
on Friday and returning about 9pm.
